Arrrrrggggghhhhh Another SPAM or SMS Caller – time to get even!!!

annoying spam and sms callsWe have all been annoyed with seemingly Random unrecognizable phone or restricted numbers popping up on our Caller ID. They want to offer you ‘a good deal’, ‘help you out’, ‘take a survey’, or some other reason.

Why write a blog post about this, well it happened again to me today, 3 times within 2 hours. So, if I have the problem, I am sure as shit someone else does to. AND if I can help you with this article, MORE Power to you, Bro or Sis 🙂

Is your Number on the Government “Do Not Call List”?

Scammers have been making phone calls claiming to represent the National Do Not Call Registry. The calls claim to provide an opportunity to sign up for the Registry. These calls are not coming from the Registry or the Federal Trade Commission, and you should not respond to these calls. To add your number to the Registry you can call 888-382-1222 from the phone you wish to register”, or go click on “Register a Phone Number” on their web page http://www.DoNotCall.gov.

What is even more annoying than Calls – unauthorized SMS Messages.telemarketers do not call list

Not that many of us in the U.S. pay per incoming or outgoing text messages any more, but perhaps a few month to month ‘anonymous’, ‘throw away’, or ‘disposable’ phones/plans still do.

What to do in Either Case of unauthorized or unwanted phone calls or SMS messages.

Well you can get serious and really go after them, more on that in a moment. I personally use Internet services to help me track numbers and see what others are actually reporting on that number.

HINT: Typing ANY number in to the Google Search Engine will give you a TON of responses and results. Don’t bother your time with any number result that comes back with X’s, (i.e. 858-312-XXXX)

What can you do? There is a simple three (3) step process to stop these annoying phone calls and text messages

Step 1: File a police complaint: Okay so you’re a Drug Dealer, because you got influenced by TV shows like ‘Weeds’ or ‘Breaking Bad’ and said to yourself “M-O-N-E-Y Boo YaH!”. Probably not an option for you, but for the rest of you law abiding citizens, did you know currently there are 44 states that have laws to this type of harassment? (http://www.ncsl.org/issues-research/telecom/cyberstalking-and-cyberharassment-laws.aspx) Ohio will even hand out 180 days in the pokie for Telephone Harassment.

Step 2: Contact your phone provider: I know, I KNOW, they will shuffle you around and give you the ‘standard operating’ blow sunshine up your skirt policy; however they are mandated by law to take these reports seriously. Ask for their supervisor and if you did step one, you most likely will have a police file number and if you’re really smart (HINT) you will get a subpoena and force your telephone provider to get the information on the caller to press charges, however step one must be completed first.

You can even reply with a baited SMS message back to prove to the phone company. Simply reply with ”Please do not contact me again, by contacting me further you admit that the purpose of your message is to harass, which may be used to file a report to the authorities.”

Once you get a postal address from the phone company you can send a letter, which is a formal notice that if they do not cease activities to your phone you will file a civil suit.

Step 3: Block Communications: if you have an android you can get an application called “Call Blocker” to block annoying calls. I personally just add them to my phone book under (Do Not Answer) and send all calls from that listing to my non descriptive Voice Mail and I never hear or feel my phone alert me to the call. Another android app called “Mr.Number” will even block SMS messages. iPhone users if you know of similar apps, please place them in the comments and I will add them here.
